Bipartisan Bennett the best choice to be Maine’s next governor | Letter

If Mainers are tired of partisan politics, vote for Sen. Rick Bennett for governor because he will reach across the aisle to collaborate and find common ground instead of continuing the polarization that exists today.

The following are just a few of the issues Bennett has been involved with: he sponsored high-speed broadband for all of Maine; co-sponsored laws that target forever chemicals; created a bill to ban foreign meddling in Maine elections; ended predatory lending practices by payday lenders; and voted to expand the existing Universal Childhood Immunization Program. His proposal to make housing and affordability a reality is doable and practical.

On a personal note, Bennett was the only legislator who responded to us after our dog Starling was poisoned by our neighbor’s rodenticide. This poison was applied around the exterior of our neighbor’s house. Starling was sickened and died after eating a poisoned rodent that came into our yard through our chain-link fence. Bennett introduced a bill that would have mandated that pest control companies notify abutters of the application of secondary poisoning pesticides.

Rick Bennett cares about the future of Maine and its inhabitants. He is intelligent, kind and has the experience of having served for 16 years in the Maine Legislature.

No one, let alone a governor, can please everyone all of the time, but independent Rick Bennett is the candidate who can be counted on to listen to all sides of an issue and make decisions after considering best evidence and practices, not partisan politics.
